The Scottish Football Museum is one of Glasgow’s many cultural attractions. It is located on the grounds of Scotland’s main stadium, the Hampden Park Sports Arena. The museum was founded in 1914, and at present it has 14 exhibition halls with about 2500 exhibits.

The most notable and valuable pieces are the ticket for the first international match between England and Scotland, dating back to 1872, and the National Cup, which is the oldest football trophy in the world, made in 1873. The World Cup, played between Renton and West Bromwich Albion in 1888, also attracts visitors. Two halls of the Museum are dedicated to portraits of members of the local national team honours list and the Scottish Football Hall of Fame.

The Scottish Football Museum is part of the sports stadium and does not have a separate building. A wide staircase leads up to its entrance, which ends in glass doors. It’s a great place for an informative family holiday.

St Mungo’s Museum of Religious Life and Art is one of the most striking architectural and cultural attractions in the Scottish city of Glasgow. It opened in 1993 on Cathedral Square, near the Cathedral Cathedral. There are four exhibition rooms on three floors: the Religious Life Gallery, the Religious Art Gallery, and the Changing Rooms and Small Scottish Gallery.

The museum exhibits focus on the major world religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Sikhism. Its main aim is to improve understanding between people of different religions. You can admire a statue of God Shiva, learn about the lives of Christian saints as well as admire intricate Islamic calligraphy.

In order to blend in with the architectural ensemble of Cathedral Square, a beautiful building in medieval style was erected for the museum. The construction reminds one of a fortress, with two towers and a massive fortified facade. Its peculiarity is a set of windows of various shapes and sizes. The western part of the building has a trapezoidal top, while the northern part is rectangular.

Pollock House Museum is one of the many cultural and architectural landmarks in the Scottish city of Glasgow. This elegant mansion is the ancestral home of the Maxwell family, now in the care of the National Trust for Scotland. It was built in 1752 in the Georgian style by the famous architect William Adam.

Pollock House now houses many world-class collections, including examples of Spanish paintings as well as glass, silver, porcelain figurines and antique furniture. The gems of the exhibition are paintings by such masters as Goya, Blake and El Greco.

The architecture of the Pollock House is not hyperbolic; everything is austere and harmonious at the same time. The building has three stories and is flanked on both sides by two symmetrical annexes which differ only in the position of the chimneys. A small staircase leads to the entrance of the house, under which there is a lovely flowerbed. Part of the grounds of the mansion are beautifully landscaped gardens with around 1,000 species of rhododendrons, as well as parks overlooking woods, fields and other scenic spots.

One of the many attractions of the Scottish city of Glasgow is the Transport Museum built with money from the city council and the support of Heritage Lottery Fund. There are some 3,000 exhibits on display – from locomotives to ships, vintage cars and bicycles. There are also mock-ups of royal carriages and 150 interactive aids that tell the story of the development of transport.

The side ‘bays’ of the Transport Museum contain historic interiors of Glasgow’s cafes and pubs of the 1900s. At the impressive south façade of the structure, one of five surviving sailing ships called the Glenlee stands at anchor. It’s not just a backdrop, but also one of the museum’s most fascinating exhibits.

The shape of the Transport Museum building, in keeping with its specialisation, clearly expresses the idea of motion. The building is characterised by its jagged, dynamic form. The body of the building is sharply curved in the middle. The exterior of the building is clad in galvanised metal, which gives it a certain austerity. Entrance to the Museum of Transport is completely free.

In 1944 Sir William Burrell donated an amazing collection of artifacts to the city of Glasgow. The businessman’s collection numbered around 9,000 works and was recognised as a Renaissance gem of the city of Glasgow.

Burrell had a lifelong passion for art and collected works which were later displayed in the museum which was built for the collection in 1983. The museum is lined with amazing stained glass windows, with as much light as the exhibits require. There is a room on the ground floor for the exhibitions, and a second floor for Barrell’s paintings. Opposite the lobby are pavilions devoted to Middle Eastern art, ancient civilisations and period collections. To the right are halls with sculpture and tapestries. The Barrell Philanthropy Museum houses works by artists from ancient Rome, Greece, Egypt and China, the famous Impressionists, collections of arms and armour, tapestries and works of Islamic and medieval art.

It is worth noting that all the works are original. The William Burrell Collection Museum is famous for paintings by the amazing Dutch master Matthijs Maris, popular in the 19th century. One of the most interesting tapestries in the museum is a tapestry called Scenes from the Life of Christ and the Virgin Mary.
